WoodReviewer’s 2024 Advent Calendar Day 3

Hello there chair lovers of Roblox, WoodReviewer here here with day 3 of my 2024 Advent Calendar. If you haven’t guessed by my intro, it is time for one of my favorite days for every calendar I’ve ever done:

Today is chair day.

Ah yes, chairs. The single thing that has caused more games to fail my reviews than almost any other asset. This year I have a trio of chairs, all of them simple, but each with a slightly different seat to demonstrate how even though wood grain is very rigid, it does have some flexibility.

But lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. One thing each chair showcases in a combination of vertical and horizontal wood grain, with the legs having vertical grain and the other various bits and bobs having horizontal wood grain.

Now moving onto the seats themselves, there are a few different ways they can work. The most basic and easiest way is for the seat to stretch across the two sides of the chair like below.

Next up is an example of a chair with bad wood grain. Here the seat has the grain facing from the front to the back, which is incorrect because the plank is much wider than it is longer. While this is possible to do, it looks odd because no one would ever do this in a real build. It is more expensive due to the board being bigger width wise along with being more prone to cracking.

If you do inside on having a chair that has wood grain that goes from the front to the back but also not have me get angry there is an option, simply having it be multiple small planks. This option is shown below.

One thing to note about this is that you may have to add extra supports under the seat depending on how exactly the chair frame works because it leaves the seat unsupported in the rear.

For my final chair in the gift I added this extra support, colored a lighter tan here for easier viewing, that supports this part of the seat.

And last but not least, a third option you could do is to have a combination of the first two chairs, with strips of wood running from one side to the other. This adds some extra detail to the chair without requiring any extra supports because it is using the same supports as the initial seat.

And that is all for today, three different chairs all with three different seats for my favorite day of the year, Chair Day. One question I’m sure some of you might have is why is it bad to have wood grain that is wider than it is long? Don’t worry, that question will be answered soon. That is just not the focus of today’s gifts.
