Hello there ladder lovers of Roblox, WoodReviewer here with day 17 of my 2024 Advent Calendar. Today I am going to go over the last unique block shape on Roblox, trusses. Trusses are unique in that not only do they look different, but they also have a unique role in allowing players to climb up them as if they were a ladder. So, what is today’s gift?

Why a ladder.

You are correct because this ladder does not have any visible trusses.

It does have an invisible truss to help with climbing, but it is invisible because trusses cannot have proper wood grain on them. You see this truss?

While the horizontal wood grain is fine, the vertical sections have bad wood grain. It is physically impossible to fix this, and even if you upload a new mesh it is basically worthless since you can’t climb the mesh. However trusses get worse. I could understand if they had bad wood grain because the the entire truss had to have all of its wood grain facing the same way. I would not like it, but I would understand that it is a limitation of the engine.

So explain to me then why if you add the diagonal supports to trusses, those diagonal supports have diagonal wood grain.

But not even the correct type of diagonal wood grain. The grain should follow the diagonal supports from one corner to the other, but instead the grain goes perpendicular to how it should go. But what does it do this. Every other object has wood grain that goes one way based on how it is inserted into Roblox: Parts, meshes, unions in the new CSG system, wedges, and corner wedges. Why are trusses the one part type that is different. Why is it like that only on diagonals pieces instead of the vertical pieces as well? Why is it different, yet it sill have bad wood grain? What possessed John to make them this unique back in 2009, and why has no one gone back to fix it since. I know they have cleaned up most of the rest of the messes he made, why not fix this one?

Anyway, I hope you understand how to use proper wood grain on trusses now, and that way is to not use them. Anytime I see or think about wooden trusses in games it makes me really angry so this post should probably end now since my smart watch is saying my heart rate is spiking while writing this I am so angry.

Just don’t use wooden trusses.
