Hello there food makers of Roblox, WoodReviewer here for my favorite day of my 2024 Advent Calendar, day 24. Now why is day 24 my favorite day? Because this is actually the last day I need to do anything since day 25 is already made and just needs to be published. Should I probably start pre-making more of my calendar? Probably, but old habits die hard. Anyway, what is today’s gift?
Why a pot holder.

So that is an admittedly poor picture of the gift, so I am going to break my format for this year and provide a better picture of it.

The first step to making this was to make the basic outline for the holes in the wood which were just bricks. I then added cylinders to the end of them to make the rounded edge.

Next I used my scale trick from some previous posts to enlarge to entire model to allow it to behave better when being unioned.

And finally before completing the union I move the pattern down into the large cylinder base.

…And it still has issues with the union. I mean those are some pretty square corners.

So if scaling it 10x didn’t work, what if we scale it 100x?

That fixed the edges. Plus it didn’t even increase the tri count much, it just went from 1064 to 1090 so I have no idea why Roblox tried to optimize the union so much while not actually doing much and making it so much worse.

The next step was to scale it down, duplicate it, rotate one 90 degrees

And then we have the final product.

“But WoodReviewer, isn’t the wood grain weak where the wood is thin near the edges?”

Yes, it is. But that is why it is layered, so the weak grain is supported by the strong grain. This is how plywood works and how laminated carbon fibre works.
Anyway, that is all for today, and tomorrow will be the end of this year’s calendar. Be sure to come back especially if you are a dev who participates in Roblox events. It will be super useful.

Judging from that last part, I’m guessing tomorrow’s gift is that one free model sign but with proper wood grain
