Hello there Egg Hunters of Roblox, WoodReviewer here with part 15 of my look at the 2018 Egg Hunt by Fifteam. Originally I was going to make this post back in April but seeing as we actually had a proper hunt this year that didn’t seem necessary. However I didn’t want BuildThomas and the rest of Fifteam to think that I had forgotten about them this year so here I am to review world 5 of The Great Yolktales, The Undernest. So, how is the wood grain in world 5?
This is part 15 of a review of a single game, how do you think the wood grain is going to be? The first issue I saw in the level was on these crooked fence posts right near the spawn area. The wood grain on these posts should have vertical wood grain, but instead it is horizontal.

Moving forward like 50 studs from the previous spot is this little crooked house. You can easily see it in the previous image. This house has bad wooden planks for the vertical supports on both the walls and for the foundation struts.

Moving on through the level to a place that I have no idea where it is because these screenshots are 6 years old at this point I found this floating foundation for one of the houses. This foundation has bad wood grain not just because one of the faces has improper wood grain, but because one side has proper wood grain while another has bad grain. In my opinion this is even worse than just having incorrect wood grain because anyone should be able to look at it and simply see that it looks odd without needing to justify exactly why it is wrong.

Speaking of stuff that just looks wrong I have absolutely no idea what this is supposed to be. It looks like something an AI would make if you asked it to make a tripod but it got confused. Regardless of what it should be, the grain on whatever these supports are supposed to be is incorrect as the grain should go from the base of whatever this is to the top, not wrapping around the supports.

Enough with supports that have improper wood grain, lets move onto another long-time issue in games: side grain on wooden planks. The grain on the upper edge should follow the grain on the side instead of having the “end grain” texture of planks. The odd thing is that most of the models in the Egg Hunt were unions so you would expect the planks towards the back wall to not have the same issue. But they do. The one time abusing unions would fix the problem and it doesn’t.

Speaking of issues that can easily be fixed because they are not caused by unions, this support post for one of the zip-line segments had bad wood grain on it. Like the above issue with the walls, this is hopefully a simple part that should just take a single click with the MaterialFlip plugin to fix. If not, then someone is getting yelled at for unioning a single basic part.

Wrapping up this part of my review of the 2018 Egg Hunt is one of the many skeleton bird perches that are scattered throughout the walls of the cave. Much like the walls earlier, the top face has the end grain for wooden planks while the side of the planks is correct. I’m not sure if this is caused by unions or by it being a part, but regardless it should be fixed.

And like that, my look at the Undernest is complete. If this area doesn’t look that bad, this review actually makes it look better than it really was as I just reviewed individual assets. These assets were reused dozens, maybe even hundreds of times, filling the entire map with bad wood grain no matter where you looked. I just have to pay for storage so I was unable take a screenshot of every single example, and honestly after the fifth time of showing every bird perch I would have ran out of new ways to say “this is bad please fix.” So be glad I am taking mercy on you, the reader, unlike Fifteam. And to those who are worried about this being the end, don’t worry. Part 16 will come out when the time is right.
