A look over a map in the game

Shoot ‘n Scoot-Energy Assault FPS

Hello there FPS lovers of Roblox, WoodReviewer here with what has historically been a fairly rare thing for me to review, an FPS game, specifically Energy Assault FPS by Typical Games. I won’t go into why I so rarely reviewed FPS games before, but I will just say that I recently upgrade my computer and how I take screenshots for my reviews and as a result getting images for games that lock me into a first person perspective is much easier now. That is really good for me as it lets me create reviews easier than ever before. And for devs this should also be a good thing as I can more easily help them fix what is wrong with their games if they choose to listen to my advice. Anyway, enough of that tangent, how is the wood grain in Energy Assault FPS?

To my surprise when I first started playing, specifically on the map Construction Zone by HarborWarWreck, DrMills123 and oredude. Things started out surprisingly good. This pallet, one of the first things I saw when I loaded into the game, has proper wood grain.

Moving on a few dozen studs from the pallet the next piece of wood grain that I encountered were this supports holding up these massive pipe segments before they were to be buried underground.

If you are a fan of Energy Assault FPS, congrats, the game made it farther with proper wood grain that 95% of all games on Roblox. Unfortunately that is where the promising wood grain ends as I then saw the final boss of bad wood grain: Wooden Crates. This wooden crate is almost forgivable as as the sides are correct so it makes a bit of sense that the end of the crate would follow the sides.

But then there was this crate. It appears to be the same as the above crate, just with the frame of the crate being made out of wooden planks. This is wrong because the edges should have be vertical as just stacking blocks of wood on top of each other likes that is not very strong.

But wait, there is another crate on this map. This one looks more like the classic Roblox crate we all know and hate, with the signature bad wood grain on the cross beam with some bonus wood grain on the horizontal supports.

But enough with the crates, there is more bad wood grain to call out here, like these random boards nailed to this wooden ramp. Why does this ramp need random boards nailed to it? I have no idea. But if it does need them then the wood grain should atleast be correct.

And while we are on the topic of ramps, this scaffolding and ramps on the other side of the map have incorrect wood grain. The grain should go along with the length of the boards, not along the width.

That is all I’ve got for Construction Zone. Unfortunately for the devs, Energy Assault has multiple maps and guess what: The other maps have bad wood grain as well. The map I played next and most often because apparently people love it was Metro by 3orzoi. It really sucked playing it 5 times while trying to play on maps I didn’t have a chance to play on, but playing on Metro wasn’t truly fruitless as it did have this shelf that has bad wood grain.

In addition to that shelf our old friend Mr. Crate made another appearance here. Here is is just completely wrong with the vertical sections all have horizontal wood grain instead of the correct vertical grain.

Moving on from Metro, the next map I played was Overgrown Shrine by Cironical and alcaydes. This map was interesting as the first thing I noticed on the map was this… thing. I think it is supposed to be a barrel of some kind, but if it is then the grain on the planks for the barrel should be vertical. However I also am not entirely sure what it is so it might have proper wood grain since there is no real-world thing I can compare it to.

One item that I do have real-world references for is doors, and this door right near the barrel is incorrect. The issue here is with the wooden frame of the door. The wood grain here should be vertical on the vertical sections, with separate parts for the horizontal pieces. Contrary to what people might believe, the wooden planks are actually fine as they are filler in the door frame and shouldn’t provide much structural support.

Moving on, the next issue I saw was this mess of wood grain on a bridge with some decorative supports above it. This is just all wrong and I will not elaborate further.

Here is a more zoomed out image of that bridge, with its supports more clearly shown with their bad wood grain and the bad wood grain also being features on the fence posts for the bridge deck.

The last piece of bad wood grain of note in the level was this ladder, whose steps are incorrect.

And that was all for Overgrown Shrine. It was a bit sparse on bad wood grain, but worry not, the next map I played, Barren Plateau by XxGiantBrainxX, makes up for it starting with another appearance from Mr. Crate. At first glance this crate appears to be fine.

However if you zoom in a bit you will see the cross braces on the top face of the crate are wrong. Granted this is a pretty poor picture of it, but I tried for like an hour to get another match on this map and just couldn’t, so this is the best you’re getting.

But if you want a more crystal clear example of bad wood grain, these supports for a balcony all have bad wood grain.

As do the diagonal supports for this staircase that lead up to one of those balconies.

And what about when you get to the top of the balconies? Well, here you are greeted with bad wood grain bad wood grain on the sides of these window frames, along with the central support for these wooden blinds.

And then inside the windows? Why more bad wood grain of course, this time with another returning character, Mr. Bad Wood Grain On Chair And Table Legs. Not quite as catchy as Mr. Crate, but they are just as frequent guests as he is.

The last piece of bad wood grain I saw in Energy Assault FPS brings us back to the start of the review with a wooden pallet, but this one has bad wood grain on the sides of the stringers. This is part of the problem when you have a game with multiple map creators; some assets made by one creator for one map may have proper wood grain, but on other maps made by different creators they may be incorrect.

And that is all I have. I know there are more maps that I could look at, but for some reason everyone kept voting on Metro between rounds and after an hour of playing these maps over and over I kind of just gave up on reviewing any more. Overall the wood grain here was pretty bad. Not quite the worse I’ve ever seen in an FPS as my review of Twisted Paintball is like 4 different parts, but still pretty bad.

Congrats on the new computer! Those graphics are pretty snazzy. Honestly, after seeing all the bad wood grain you point out in these posts, I cannot see the wood grain in these games the same way anymore. So much bad wood grain 😭
