Hello there fellow Spring planters of Roblox, WoodReviewer here to take a look at a random game I came across while browsing the Charts page because that is honestly how I come up with about half of the games that I review. This random game is Grow a Garden by DevNamedDavid, who if you don’t recognize was one of the people behind Desert Detectors that I reviewed a few weeks ago. Also Jandel is now involved with this game, which is something that I honestly did not realize until a few minutes ago when I went to grab the link for this game. But let’s ignore him for a minute and just focus on the wood grain. Is it any good?
Well, it’s not bad, mainly because it is all smooth plastic. All the planks, fences, and everything in the garden is smooth plastic, with just with the original studs and welds textures added to give the game some texture.

Even the stalls and signs are all smooth plastic, so without any bad wood grain the game passes my tests and is fine.

…However, I rarely even give these glowing reviews, so it is wise for me to turn over every stone checking the wood grain, and wouldn’t you know, I found something under a stone. While loading into the game one time I noticed the game icon, which appears to have a wooden planting bed.

However as it is like 40 pixels in this image, I couldn’t really tell what was happening, so I went and found the game icon on the site.
But at 256×256 I still couldn’t really tell what was going on.

Thankfully using the power of changing random numbers in the URL I was able to pull the the original, full-sized 1024×1024 image from the game icon, and that got me this.

So let’s start review it. First off the shovel, it is probably wooden but is so low-resolution and drowned out by light that I can hardly tell what is going on but it looks fine.
Next there are the planks for the garden bed. The look fine and the end grain is hidden, so they get a pass.
Next there is the post. This is interesting because the wood grain does appear a bit horizontal, but it is right. You see, some wood has this curved pattern on the side. I won’t go into what exactly causes this now, but it is due to trees aren’t perfectly round, are kind of cone shaped, and when wood is cut it doesn’t go directly parallel to the wood grain because of that. If you look at the old wood texture, you can see this pattern.

You can then match this to the corner post in the picture and you see the shape that texture right here.

And then in studio with a bit of work due to the random nature of how Roblox’s textures get assigned you can eventually get it to show up, just to prove that it is fine.

And with that all the stones are turned. For once, a game that has proper wood grain. Granted it is all smooth plastic, but hey, that is always an option that you all choose to ignore.

incredible, i’m astounded
