The second area of The Hatch that I am taking a look at is the Darkness Biome. Again this means nothing really other than helping me keep tract of what games I’ve done, but if there is some trend of how the games are grouped just let me know.

Pop It Trading by ToysLiker

The first game in the the Darkness Biome that I played is Pop It trading. At first I thought this was going to be a repeat of the Connection Biome with the first place having correct wood grain again, but unfortunately for Pop It Trading the end grain on this wooden plank sign failed it. Is it barely visible for you to see the bad end grain? Yes. But barely visible is still visible.

Verdict: Fail

Dudes Battlegrounds by Fantastic! Games

Another game who promises big things with their studio name, Fanstastic! Games has less than Fanstastic! wood grain in Dudes Battlegrounds thanks to the bad wood grain on this bench. The grain here should flow from one side of the bench to the other on all faces, not front to back or up and down.

Verdict: Fail

Mic Up by Wild Roleplay

Mic Up was so close to having proper wood grain. At first I thought that it would be fine as at first glance I saw nothing offensive, but then upon a closer look I noticed that the wooden trim on the sand boxes was incorrect. Here the wood grain should go along with the length of the board, not perpendicular to it.

Verdict: Fail

Jetpack Training by LazyGameStudios

Normally I wouldn’t have faith in a game made by someone called “LazyGameStudios” but they did the old HolidayPwner trick of making everything smooth plastic and as such don’t have any wood grain that can fail them.

A game that resembles Teddy but is somehow made by a different developer, normally I would look up if the developers are related but for now I’m going to just assume Jandel owns both of them. Regardless of ownership, both share that they have bad wood grain. In Miss Kitty’s case, the bad wood grain is on these wooden boards, among several over places.

Carry an Aquarium by VoxSimple Games

Carry an Aquarium was mostly smooth plastic, however it had one issue with the buyable crates. While it is kind of hard to see because it uses a custom texture with some fairly pale wood grain, the vertical frame on the sides appears to have horizontal wood grain. It is kind of hard to tell, but trust me, it was more obvious in-game.

Verdict: Fail

Undertale Test Place Reborn by UTPR

The game was all smooth plastic. Or atleast the entire area that I saw while collecting the egg was all smooth plastic. Not sure how many more ways I can say that games with smooth plastic can’t have bad wood grain.

Cat Trip by CattyApps

While completing the egg quest for Cat Trip I did not come across any bad wood grain, when I spawned I did happen to peak into the VIP area and saw some bad wood grain on the stools in this little cafe area. I didn’t get a better view because I don’t want to reward a game with bad wood grain by buying the VIP, but you can just barely make it out here on the stool legs.

Another game that tried its best to hide bad wood grain from me but ultimately failed in that quest, this time the bad wood grain was on the upper face of these diner benches. While I can understand this can be touch to make, the fact the front of the bench has the correct wood grain while the top face has bad wood grain causes the game to loose any pity I might have had for them.

Death Penalty by vintage mens clothing

Why does a group about vintage mens clothing own a game about killing random people in a sick and twister murder prison? I have no idea. Anyway, the sides of the small side table are incorrect, they should have vertical wood grain, not horizontal.

Burger Game by Method Men Studios

Burger Game is a game about making burgers, so due to my love of burgers I am naturally inclined to have a soft spot for it. However my love of burgers does not outweigh my hatred for bad wood grain, which Burger Game has on this little wooden dock. Why does a game about burgers have wooden docks? No idea, but it really lets the game down.

Draw & Donate by Bidaz

Draw & Donate is a complicated game. On one had without the event being here and the entire game being inside a building it would have passed my test. However, due to the fact you can go outside you can see the bad wood grain for the baseplate the is normally hidden. Is this fair to me to critique? Yes, but it does make me sad they ruined their wood grain for the event.

Dead Rivers by Cebrail’s Studio

Dead Rivers is the second Dead Rails clone I played in this the event, with the first one being Dead Sands. However as Dead Sands was removed after the event launched I am ignoring it. But enough about a removed game, Dead Rivers has bad wood grain on this chair that spawns right in the middle of the spawn base. On the plus side, atleast it has proper wood grain on the crate that spawned.

The first game about running away from family members trying to kill you, it is the second game made by PlatinumFalls after Barry’s Prison Run. Much like Barry’s Prison Run it has bad wood grain on the rails for the ladder. Why is PlatinumFalls so bad at making ladders? I have no idea.

A game that looks like it is straight out of 2009, Catwalk show is one of the rale games that has wood grain and has proper wood grain. In this case this singular wooden wall around this sign is all the wood grain that I found. It isn’t much, but it is at least better than most other games.

Granny by Promidius Games

Another game about escaping from a granny, I really wonder what all the players in these games did to annoy the elderly. I do know what the game did to annoy me, with the door frames in the maps having bad horizontal wood grain instead of the correct vertical wood grain.

2 Player Duck Tycoon by Nate’s Creations

I really have no idea who wanted to player a 2 player tycoon as ducks, but someone did, and someone made it. Despite how unique the game name is, it falls into one of the most common pitfalls for bad wood grain that I see with the crates in the game having bad wood grain. I really should start keeping track of how many games have bad wood grain on crates.

Isles of Ravos by Isles of Ravos

A wilderness survival game where the entire game takes places in the wild, Isles of Ravos avoids having bad wood grain by not having any wood grain at all. However, it fails by having bad tree bark on the trees.

Puppy Game by Grandpas Game

So I just want to say that by this point I’ve have given up on making sense between games and their group names. Luckily for me I don’t need to put any thought into the wood grain as this is a straight forward case of a vertical support having horizontal wood grain.

Brainrot Evolution by Brainrot Evolution

So Brainrot Evolution is on the edge of having bad wood grain vs bad wood grain. The overall wood grain is correct, however the back of this sign posts seems to have some issues with either the texture/mesh. Overall I have no clue what is actually happening there, but it looks enough like bad wood grain that it is getting a fail.

Impossible Squid Game! Glass Bridge 2 by Northern Lights LTD

Back to the world of games with questionable IPs, Impossible Squid Game brings back some classics. Not good classics, but the classic bad wood grain on sign posts from the previous Roblox events.

Daycare by CleanMeanBeans

The next horror game to enter this competition, Daycare tries to outdoor all the other horror games by having the game made mostly out of smooth plastic. This works as I was unable to see any wood grain anywhere while finding the egg, so that is a plus.

RetroStudio by Retro Dev

A call back to old Roblox, RetroStudio really embraces the old Roblox era by having a game based on the era of Roblox back before wood grain was added. I mean, that might be a lie based on the exact date it is replicating, but for the sake of it not having any wood grain anywhere I’m going with that.

Verdict: Pass

Entity Fishing by wwwilapy Studios

A game about capturing cosmic horrors, Entity Fishing contains one of the most well known cosmic horrors that exists on Roblox: Wooden crates with bad wood grain. Sure, it isn’t really a hidden cosmic horror, but I sure am afraid of it.

Verdict: Fail

Ice Fishing Simulator

I have no clue why I decided to do this fishing games back-to-back, but it happened. Anyway, the back supports for this rocking chair and the armrest both have bad wood grain. This is bad as the last thing you want to have happen is for a chair to collapse on you.

I genuinely have no idea what this game is about but it had no wood grain in the main lobby so that is good I guess.

Silly Simon Says by Nomo Falls

Silly Simon Says has one thing wrong with it: Simon doesn’t say/doesn’t say “Simon Says” before he has you do tasks so that kind of defeats the entire purpose of Simon Says. Also I’m not sure what exactly what is going on with this bricks. If they are supposed to be sand or some other texture, the game gets a pass. If it is supposed to be wood, it fails. For now I’ll give it a pass, but only until I see it in some place that is obviously supposed to be wood.

Verdict: Pass. For now.

weird strict dad by BlueLoop Studios

Weird strict dad is mostly made out of smooth plastic. However the game couldn’t resist the temptation of adding wood grain on this table. The grain on the face towards the camera should go with along with the face on the top of the table, not vertically.

Verdict: Fail

Find The Hamster by Shoeless Studios

Another game that is almost entirely smooth plastic, Find The Hamster also falls for the temptation of adding random wooden assets to game with an old fan favorite, wooden signs with bad wood grain on the sign posts.

Verdict: Fail

Peroxide by [Peroxide]

Another anime game, Peroxide somehow manages to fail with these telephone poles that have a custom mesh for some reason. No clue why someone would do that, but while normal cylinders have proper wood grain unless you really screw up, meshes give you a ton more opportunities to screw up, which [Peroxide] did.

Verdict: Fail

Demon Blade by DemonCube

The final game in the Darkness Biome, Demon Blade falls for the classic bad wood grain on an oversized crate. Or at least I think it is a crate. Regardless, the wood grain on that corner support is bad and should be fixed regardless of what it is.
