The Hub-The Hatch Part 11

So, with 410 places done that you would think that it is time for me to rest. But there is one more game that I need to review before I can call this event done. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you Twin Atlas, this is your time to shine.

Now I can’t be too mad at the developers of The Hub. Out of the entire event the Hub was the best part of it by far, especially since only a dozen or so games had actual quests for their eggs. But by now you should realized that I am not satiated by fancy effects or cutscenes and that the only thing that will satisfy me is proper wood grain. So, how is the wood grain here?

Well let’s start off with the initial spawn island that I cannot figure out how to get to anymore. Luckily I took screenshots of it when I first joined so there is something. Anyway, the wood grain on these fences is terrible. The posts are terrible, as are the balusters, rails, and event the end grain of whatever is happening on the floor under the fences.

Moving onto Shifting Shores things do get a bit better, but that is only because it is really hard to do worse. Don’t get me wrong, there is a ton of genuinely good wood grain, like these crates, barrels, and benches. I will keep this in mind when I complain about other Twin Atlas projects having bad wood grain.

Depite all those things having correct wood grain there are still plenty of examples of bad wood grain throughout the map, however. Take this sign board right near spawn. The bottom horizontal support has vertical wood grain which is incorrect. Additionally the main board of the sign is incorrect but it is close enough to a square that it might just be acceptable.

Moving on through the main town the next issue is on this cello I saw. Or maybe it was a large violin. Or some other large string instrument. I’m not sure, that is a rabbit hole for another day. Whatever instrument it is, the wood grain should be vertical here, going from the bottom to the top of the instrument.

Besides that most of the wood grain on the buildings and structures was acceptable. The only major exception was the end grain on the various parts of the of the pier.

The same issue wasn’t just on the large pieces above but also on the smaller pieces that make up the various staircases the ascent and descent the sand dunes by the beach.

Moving on from Shifting Shores there wasn’t much wood grain elsewhere in the map. The most noticeable area with wood was the Earth Biome in Emerald Winds which had an entire village built into a hill, but a vast majority of the wood grain there was fine.

The one exception was much like in Shifting Sands where the end grain for the wooden segments that make up the various paths and streets here was bad. But based on the similarity of the meshes and textures I’m assuming this is the same mesh and texture combo from Shifting Sands, just recolored, so fixing it in either will fix it in the other.

The Water Biome also had several issues on the sunken boat in terms of the wooden planks, especially on the railing, but between the underwater fog and invisible walls preventing you from approaching it any closer to get a better look.

The Time and Energy Biomes also have these bridges that have bad end grain on these planks, but honestly I am just tired and this point and don’t have any more unique ways to say that the plank end grain is bad.

And then for one last piece of bad wood grain from this event, this sign at the end of the Air Biome obby has bad end grain textures on the top and bottom of the sign.

And with that, this review is done. Be sure to circle around back to the start if you want to read my final thoughts on it.
