More Games-The Games

Hello there game lovers of Roblox, WoodReviewer here, and if you are reading this then that means Roblox’s latest event, The Games by Twin Atlas, is probably over. Or maybe it got extended, but I’m not changing what time this post goes up so if it is still going on than that is great.

“But WoodReviewer, what was the event?”

Good question. The Games was a Roblox event that focused around sports game in a non-copyright infringing way where by completing events you were given points to get hats, and you could also join teams for the event and help your team be number one and win a prize. Or join the Foot team because feet. Anyway, there were 50 games in this event, and like The Hunt and The Classic I took a quick look at each and every one of them to look for bad wood grain.

There is one small caveat though. Usually when I review games I review a majority of the game to ensure the game has no bad wood grain. For The Games, there were 50 games to review over a 10 day period, so instead of reviewing the entire game, I just took a look at enough of the game to complete any of the tasks for the event. If I don’t find any bad wood grain in that time, you get a pass. But if I do find bad wood grain, well, that is a fail. Now I’m sure some of you think this is a bit generous but don’t worry, I found enough in my quick look of the games in The Games.

So, let’s start this, shall we?

Eat the World by mPhase

The first time I took a look at was Eat the World. Eat the World is a game where you played on a custom made, classical Roblox style map with only bricks and spheres, with no C-Framing done on the map. For those youngins here, C-Framing is basically rotating bricks at increments that aren’t 90 degrees, and so they don’t intersect. Yes, rotating bricks used to be a specific skill on Roblox. Anyway, the entire map for this event was smooth plastic, and as such there was no wood grain so it gets a pass for now.

Pet Catchers by Rumble Studios

Pet Catchers is an interesting cross between a Pokemon game with the general aesthetics of Pet Sim. Is that a bit unfair to call it just a clone? Not really, however I will be a bit generous with this game because I was unable to find any bad wood grain in the map because it was all smooth plastic. It may take inspiration from other games, but at least it takes some good inspiration.

Fishing Simulator by Cloud Interactive

The first true simulator of The Games event, Fishing Simulator follows the general trend that simulators have of building their maps out of almost entirely smooth plastic, in this case I couldn’t find any wood grain in the entire map. So, by some miracle, we are now three for three in terms of the games in this event not having bad wood grain.

Launch Into Space Simulator by goodGames Space

By some absolute miracle of some divine intervention, Launch Into Space Simulator is yet another simulator that is all smooth plastic and lacks and wood grain. Yes, by some random chance the first four games I played in this event all lacked any wood grain. Will this trend continue?

Pull a Sword by xFrozen Obbys

The first game in this event that has proper wood grain, Pull a Sword features some wood grain on this wooden support beam in its custom event area, and then some more on broken wooden planks. I am now five for five for games in this event to not have any bad wood grain by random chance, and I was starting to get concerned that I might be out of a job soon.

Michael’s Zombies by MZ Community

Unforantetly, all good things must come to an end, and Michael’s Zombies ruined the streak of no bad wood grain with this horrendous wood grain on this sign for the missions for The Games in their new event world. This sign is all over the place with bad wood grain, with the vertical posts, bottom crossbeam, and diagonal feet supports all having bad wood grain, but somehow the top crossbeam was correct. There was more bad wood grain hiding in this game, but seeing as I tend to just go with the first example of bad wood grain I see in a game and this is literally the quest board, this is all that is being featured now.

Watermelon Go! by Aiko.gg

A not-so-subtle Fruit Game inspired game, Watermelon Go! is one of the few games on Roblox that is entirely GUI bases, and seeing as GUIs don’t have a way to import wood grain in-engine as a default, this game lacks any bad wood grain due to having a lack if any physical parts. I was also considering moving this game in front of Michael’s Zombies in this review for comedic effect of having the first six games all having proper wood grain, but I am a man of integrity, and trust me, you won’t see many more games without bad wood grain.

Motorush! by Motorush Inc

Motorush is a game about driving motorcycles around an open world, and for this event you had to complete 3 different races and find some shrines. To help new players for this event, the devs decided to add some wooden signs to the map, and these signs all had bad wood grain on the vertical support posts. Seeing as these signs helped guide new players to the event goals, they were the first example of bad wood grain that I saw. But don’t worry, there was more that I’m not showing.

Fashion Famous by Fashion Famous

Fashion Famous is a runway fashion game, and for some reason my head refused to spawn in-game and I was unable to look around on the runways during the rounds. Anyway, there was some bad wood grain in some of the various runway scenes, but due to the mentioned head thing I went with the first piece of bad wood grain I saw was on the side grain of these wooden planks in the main lobby. The side grain on these planks should follow the grain on top, not be vertical.

Funky Friday by Lyte Interactive

Funky Friday is a perfect example of why I don’t consider the reviews for these event games full reviews. In my review of Funky Friday during The Hunt, the only bad wood grain I saw was on a small violin. Playing it more for this event and being more familiar with how the game works I found some more bad wood grain on several of the stages that I didn’t notice before because I didn’t know how to select different stages. Anyway, the chair legs of these chairs have bad wood grain, and if I could get a better look I’d guess the table is also off. But the chair legs are all I need to condemn the game, so that is enough for me.

Race Clicker by 48h Games

Race Clicker is a simulator game that involves running across a map at super-sonic speeds with the help of pets. Seeing as it is a simulator game, most of the game was either the grid texture or smooth plastic, so there wasn’t any bad wood grain to find so it passes the test for this event.

Slap Battles by Slap Battles

Another returning game from The Hunt event, Slap Battles had a special new soccer game mode for The Games this time, however you still spawned in the same lobby as before. And in this lobby was a sign. And stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the sign had bad wood grain again. Yes, I know, I also thought the bad wood grain on the sign was a special thing for The Hunt, but I guess they are back again for The Games.

Tongue Battles by LDS Fighting

Tongue Battles is a game where you *checks notes* lick you opponents. Yeah, that is all that really needs to be said. Anyway, in the game’s main area there were these barrels, and they all have improper wood grain. The grain here should go from the bottom of the barrel to the top, not around the barrel.

Gym League by 1v2 Studios

Gym League is basically a simulator, but it isn’t called a simulator so people probably don’t realize it is a simulator. The game focuses on lifting weights and working out, and then you get different tans in place of rebirthing. Anyway, to complete the event you had to compete in a body building competition at a school, and the sign to go to the school had bad wood grain on the vertical post. Yes, bad sign posts strike again.

Arm Wrestle Simulator by Kubo Games

Another game that is returning from The Hunt, Arm Wrestle Simulator had another custom-made event level for The Games. Unlike The Hunt, however, this level has these wooden boards that you have to walk up to get an event item, and the wooden planks on these boards are wrong, and have no side grain. Granted, the texture is really vague and they might be bricks, but bricks make even less sense here so I’m sticking with them being wood.

Super Golf by Nonsiy Games

The first specific sports themed game that I completed in The Games, Super Gold is a mini-golf game that somehow incorporates basketball and hockey mini-games into mini-golf. One other thing that Super Golf incorporates is bad wood grain, as seen here on the vertical post on this lamp holder, along with the top face of border board closest to my camera.

Sharkbyte 2 by Abracadabra

A somewhat traditional round-based survival game, Sharkbyte 2 is an asymmetrical game where one player plays as a shark whose goal is to eat players while the rest of the players play as fishermen whose goal is to not get eaten by a shark. In actual round part of the game there isn’t much bad wood grain to see, however in the lobby my old friend Wooden Crate appears with its signature bad wood grain.

Bad Business by Ruddev

The only real PvP FPS game in The Hunt, I know for a fact the creators of Bad Business tried to fix the wood grain in their maps to appease me. However, they came up just short as this small piece of floor that sticks out under a staircase had bad wood grain on the side of the planks that faces me. This face should go from one side of the staircase to the other, like the top face, not vertical.

Basketball Legends by Infinity Sports

Basketball Legends is the first of many Ro-Sports games that take part in The Games events. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Ro-Sports are a genre of Roblox games whose goal is to “replicate” a real sport. The levels of replication they have can vary from realistic animations and rulesets, to playing hockey by hitting a ball with a stick that you control by turning your player around. Anyway, most of the games in the event fall into the first category, and Basketball Legends is included in that. It is also included in the “games that have wood for no real reason and ruin their game” with this courtside table having a wooden top that has improper wood grain. The grain here should go from side to side on the table, not front to back.

Super League Soccer by Play! Football

A game whose developers are confused as to whether the game is called football or soccer, Super League Soccer is a soccer game where you play soccer I guess. I never played soccer as a kid, all I know is you kick the ball into the net. Sports aside, one thing I do know is that these benches in the locker room have bad wood grain. In fact, this is the exact same issue the game had in The Hunt, so clearly it hasn’t been fixed since then.

Real Futbol by Real Sports Interactive

I don’t know what futbol is, but based on the fact you kick a ball into a net I’m guessing it is yet another name for soccer and people are really bad at making up their mind for what exactly to call this sport. Anyway, Real Futbol is basically just like Super League Soccer, just more annoying and with even more rules I don’t understand. There was randomly a guy T-posing in the bottom right of my screen at times and I never could figure out what that was about. Anyway, aside from being about soccer, another thing Real Futbol shares with Super Soccer League is that the locker room has bad wood grain, this time on the vertical supports for the lockers. The wood grain here should be vertical, not horizontal.

Obby But You’re An A Bike by Fortune 777

Obby But You’re On A Bike is an obby but you ride a bike during it. The name really tells you the entire point of the game. Anyway, it is also a returning game from The Hunt, and as is becoming a more and more common trend it hasn’t fixed the wood grain that was wrong from The Hunt, with this spinner wheel having bad wood grain on its support pieces.

Track and Field: Infinite by Aerial Entertainment

A new game to Roblox events and a game that features non-ball based games, Track and Field: Infinite features several track and field games that you have to complete, which are easier to understand than the soccer games because it is just “run from A to B” or “throw thing.” One thing that is also easy to understand is that the border around this sign board near the spawn has inproper wood grain. The grain on the vertical parts of the sign should be, well, vertical.

Ultimate Football by Cloudburst Interactive

Much like The Hunt, The Games features two football games. One of them is Ultimate Football, which does a novel thing of having a unique area to complete quests in that teacher you how the game works. I know, no need to look through 20 menus to find key binds, the event teaches you the game. Unforantetly, while that does earn points for the actual event, the wood grain points are deducted due to this sign near spawn that I featured in my The Hunt review, which still has improper wood grain on the vertical posts.

Be an NPC or Die! by arashiyama

Be an NPC or Die is a new game to the Roblox event circuit, in which you try and blend into a crowd of NPCs while committing various acts of mischief. Overall, it was a fairly unique game to have in The Games, however it features the classic “bad wood grain on chair legs” that tends to plague so many games on Roblox. I believe there were a few other examples of bad wood grain, but as this was the first I saw in the lobby it is the one I’m highlighting.

Sonic Speed Simulator by GameFam

After being featured four times in The Hunt but not a single time in The Classic, GameFam has returned to The Games with Sonic Speed Simulator and it is GameFam so of course the wood grain is bad.

Volleyball 4.2 by unlimited blog works

Another sportsball game features in The Games, Volleyball 4.2 has the best objective in any of the quests in that you have to spike a volleyball into the face of other players. One thing that wasn’t the best was this sign near the spawn that again has bad wood grain on the vertical post. Why this is a thing I’ll never know, but people really should make signs out of smooth plastic.

Dress to Impress by Dress to Impress Group

The first game that has been features in all 3 events, Dress to Impress joined The Games with a whole game make-over. As the only issue with The Hunt was their event stuff and they did fine in The Classic, all they had to do was not screw up their game and this would be an easy win. Unforantetly, their game redesign added in some bad wood grain on this counter top, so the game now fails the wood grain test. On the plus side, at least my avatar spawned with a head.

Blade Ball by Wiggity

The second game to be featured in all 3 events, Blade Ball rolled a duplicated example of bad wood grain with this exact sign having bad wood grain for a third event. Granted, it had bad wood grain elsewhere in the game, but this sign is right next to spawn. At least make my job a bit difficult, or change the sign up so I’m positive I’m not reusing the same screenshot from a past event.

Drive World by Twin Atlas

The most featured studio in any of the events, Twin Atlas’ first attempt at a game with proper wood grain in The Games is Drive World, a racing game with a unique obstacle course set up and zero gravity race tracks. However, I am going to ignore all of that and focus on this bench that still has bad wood grain from The Hunt event. Twin Atlas, please fix this, I know one of you is reading this, I am trying to give you warning, just look at my car. You know what this means, so please don’t set yourself up for failure.

Hockey Legends by Infinity Sports

Hockey Legends is the second game by Infinity Sports in The Games event, because apparently specializing in sports games pays off in a sports themed event. The issue in Hockey Legends is on the vertical post for this random rewards wheel, which despite being vertical has horizontal wood grain. That’s worse is that the vertical post is a brick surrounded by two wedges, so there is no reason a simple part flip can’t be done to fix it.

Horrific Housing by CookieScript

A new game not just to these events but also to me as I have never heard of it before, Horrific House commits the horrific sin of using wooden trusses. Now, I could go into more detail, but the TL;DR version is that wooden trusses will never have proper wood grain unless you make your own mesh for them. This is a long-time issue that everyone at Roblox seems to ignore because fixing it is an entire project in itself, but until it is fixed wooden trusses will always have bad wood grain, so don’t use them. Please.

Keys by Daybreaker

Another new-to-me game, Keys is a survival horror game where you must get keys to open doors to find a door to escape, but opening doors unleashes more and more monsters onto the map that will chase you down. Overall the game seemed interesting, but several levels have improper wood grain. Here is an example of some bad wood grain in the lobby, with the boards covering the door and the vertical wall support all having improper wood gain. The vertical support will be the hardest to fix as it is likely a mesh, but the boards over the door should be easy enough to fix with a material flip plugin.

Murderers vs Sheriffs Duels by Red21 Games

Another returning game from The Hunt, Murders vs Sheriffs has a brand new seasonal lobby for the games, so I can’t compare it directly to The Hunt version of the game. However, the new lobby does have some bad wood grain, so again the lobby causes the game to fail my test. The issue here is on this window on the boat, the horizontal part of the window has vertical wood grain, instead of the grain crossing from one side of the window to the other.

HCBB 9v9 by HCBB

Full disclosure, I don’t know what HCBB stands for. It could stand for Hardcore Baseball. Or it could stand for Hand Cooked Blueberry Buns. Or Hated Critic Beaten Badly. Based on the fact it is a baseball game I believe the first one is correct, but I don’t feel like looking it up to check so use your imagination. Anyway, HCBB follows the trend that other sportsball games set up with the locker room/sidelines having improper wood grain while the rest of the game is fine. Here the problem is on the bench, whose wood grain should go with the length of the wood, not vertically.

Fusion Football by XSTNS Group

Hey, did you just read my previous paragraph on sportsball games having bad wood grain in the locker room? Guess what? Fusion Football has bad wood grain in the locker room. It is also another game that was featured in The Hunt that had improper wood grain and now 6 or so months later it continues to have improper wood grain.

Horse Race Simulator by NoExt Zone

A return to simulators after a while away, Horse Race Simulator has a questionable choice in wood grain. The issue here is the ramp/railings on the side of this staircase, which have wedges made of vertical wood grain. How wood grain should work is that the grain goes with the longest side of the wood, which would mean the grain here should be horizontal, not vertical. However, this piece is so big even that would look a bit awkward. Still, I must follow me rules so this Horse Race Simulator fails my test.

Pacer Test by Pacer Test Game

One of the smaller and lesser known games in The Games, Pacer Test does have one major thing going for it: Not bad wood grain. Granted this is mostly due to the fact the game is almost entirely smooth plastic, and the one thing that is wood is the wooden planks on the floor and those are hard to screw up, but it is possible, and these weren’t.

Boxing League by Kenami

The first boxing game in the event, Boxing League focused mainly on PvP for the event, which is useful because I really wanted to punch someone after seeing the wood grain on the railings around the spawn area for the event.

Driving Empire by Voldex

Another game makings its third appearance in Roblox events, Driving Empire has done poorly in all previous events. Now, I could be unfair and use the event prize car from The Classic and say that because it is in the game the game is bad, however that seems a bit unfair. Instead, here is a newly place sign made just for The Games that clearly shows they are still adding bad wood grain to the game. This also marks the first time a game in all 3 events has had 3 different examples of bad wood grain featured, so that is cool I guess.

Robeats by Robeats Dev

Robeats is the second rhythm game in The Games event, and honestly it is a game I should have checked out a long time ago. But I suck at rhythm games so I’ve been putting it off until now because I was forced to play it. Anyway, the problem in Robeats was with this bench. The top face of the horizontal parts of the bench have wood grain that goes from the front to the back of the bench, rather from one side to the other. Overall a fairly simple fix, it the parts aren’t a mesh or union.

Horse Life by Sonar Studios/Twin Atlas

The second of three Twin Atlas and Co games in The Games, Horse Life uses a custom wooden texture which makes it a bit harder to determine if the wood grain is accurate or not as I haven’t spent a decade and a half looking at this texture, but I was still able to figure it out fairly quickly. This window, for example, has bad wood grain on all the vertical sections, likely due to it all being made with one mesh. Again, meshes are harder to fix, but it still should be done.

Survive the Killer by Slycer Interactive

Another returning game from The Hunt, Survive the Killer had probably the hardest quest in The Games because it required you to play with a friend, and I don’t have any friends. However, I do own multiple computers and many alt accounts, so I was able to finish it. My rewards? This starter house that still has the same bad wood grain that it had in The Hunt, with bad wood grain on the windows, door frames and railings.

Creatures of Sonaria by Sonar Studios/Twin Atlas

The final Twin Atlas and Co game in this event, Creatures of Sonaria was so close to being fine when it appeared in The Hunt with only some Easter Baskets ruining its wood grain. This time it has no baskets, and is the 9th time a Twin Atlas game has been featured, with each previous game falling sort of having proper wood grain. So, will Creatures of Sonaria provide the final win Twin Atlas was looking for? Well, know. You seem the bark on these trees is bad. For trees, bark should always go from the base of the tree to the tips of branches in the same direction, no matter how the trees curves. As you can kind of see here, the wood grain is a mix of vertical and horizontal wood grain, ruining the bark. Granted, it is almost impossible to do this properly without meshes and custom textures, but other trees had them, so why not this one?

untitled boxing game by drowningsome

Untitled boxing game is a PvP boxing game which had a special event boss fight system for The Games. On one hand, the bosses were harder then noob players to beat. On the other hand, they were easier to cheese than pro players, so overall they weren’t too bad. Even more impressive than a fun experience was the fact the game had no wood at all, making it the first game in quite a while to not have and bad wood grain that I found.

Epic Minigames by TypicalType

It would probably drive me crazy to do a proper review of Epic Minigames. Between the areas locked behind higher levels, randomness and amount of minigames, the secrets added over the past decade the game has existed, and the quickness of the games which makes taking screenshots difficult, it would take me a while to document all the bad wood grain in this game. Luckily, for these reviews I just need to document one example, which in this case is the pro servers sign need spawn.

Midnight Racing: Tokyo by devGem

Much like Robeats, Midnight Racing: Tokyo is a game I’ve known about for a while and have meant to keep a closer eye on, but just haven’t due to reasons. Anyway, after checking it our I was almost immediately met with disappointment as this billiard rack had improper wood grain on the top face, with the grain going all in one direction rather than going from each corner to the next. This wasn’t the only example of bad wood grain I found, just the first and closest to the event mission.

Adopt Me! by Uplift

Look, it is Adopt Me. They may not have been the first game to use the all-smooth plastic building style, but they have fully embraced it and I have never been able to find a single textured block in any part of the game.

Bee Swarm Simulator by Onett

One of the few games to return to The Games from The Classic despite not being in The Hunt, Bee Swarm Simulator has been one of the modern classics on Roblox for a while now. However, part of being a classic is not changing the classic parts of your game, and that includes this wooden support bean with bad wood grain inside of the starting area’s shop. Would anyone else know that it was changed? Probably not. Will I continue to notice it is wrong? Yes.

Arsenal by Rolve

I’m just going to copy and paste what I had to say about Arsenal from The Classic because it still applies here.

The next game saved to my images folder is Arsenal, and much like Adopt Me! they are another returning game from The Hunt and they also maintained the same wood grain status that they had during The Hunt: Bad. Well, it is a bit more complicated. You see, once again Arsenal made an entirely new event game mode for The Classic, and props to who ever made it, but it was in a nice 2008 era Roblox aesthetic and I was unable to find any bad wood grain in it while completing the challenges. However, please remember how I am doing this event: Any bad wood grain I can find while completing the challenges is fair game. So that includes in the main lobby, during gameplay, and while getting to the Classic special game modes.

“But WoodReviewer, Arsenal has a button in the main menu and that takes you directly to the event place.”

Yes. But Arsenal also has a custom loading screen system, and the fence, chairs, and tables in one of those loading screen has bad wood grain, so that counts. Sorry, but I am just following the pre-made rules I already established.

Yup, for the second event in a row Arsenal makes a custom game mode and I find bad wood grain on the loading screen joining the new game mode.

The Games

The last part of The Games that needs to be looked at is the hub itself. The biggest issue I found here was this wooden bench that was hidden on the map. It is made out of wooden planks, and the wood grain is just all over the place. None of the vertical pieces have vertical grain, and most of the horizontal pieces are off.

So, how was The Games? Overall, 10 of the 50 games had proper wood grain, which is 20%. This is an improvement from the 17% of games in The Hunt, but a downgrade from the 25% of games in The Classic that had proper wood grain. There are also definitely some trends that are developing with these events, with the usual suspects having proper wood grain, simulators using all smooth plastic, and basically everyone else just sucks. I know last time I said there were only a few dozen events to go until they were at 100% proper wood grain, but with the downgrade this time things are looking even duller.

Can you review REx: Reincarnated? I ask because not only is there an ore that references you called WOOD GRAIN, but they also somehow manage to mess up the wood grain on the drawings of the pickaxes in the toolbar icons. There’s a wiki for the game with pictures of everything if you don’t want to grind for everything needed to judge the game’s wood.
