The first area that I looked at was the Connection Biome. This doesn’t matter much but is just useful for me to keep tract of how many games in each part of The Hatch have bad wood grain.

The first game I played in this massive undertaking is a Indonesian voice chat hangout. Not only was I impressed by the lack of bad wood grain, but I was also impressed by the fact that wood rings were added to these stumps. It is a nice touch that I would love to see in more game, and honestly this is the peak of this event and it is all down hill from here.

Pet Story by Poncho Kings
The second game I played in the event and the second one to not have any proper wood grain. See other devs, look how much easier it is to make crates when you don’t have to worry about wood grain.

…And there we go. The first game in the event to have bad wood grain does it in style with some bad wood grain on wooden crates. I mean, the front of the shop also has bad wood grain, but blaming it on crates is funnier.

Sprunki Killer by Hippy Hippy Hippy
Do I know what a Sprunki is? No. Do I care? Also no. All I know is that this sign is made out of brick which while not advisable it does fall out of my area of study so it passes the Wood Grain test. Plus it’s not all smooth plastic, so another plus.

TPS Street Soccer by TAYFUN7
I am not going to even to understand what TPS stands for, why a street soccer game is being played inside, or why there is a random pile of junk on the side of the field that happens to be filled with a bunch of assets that all have bad wood grain. All I care about is that the pile exists, and it ruins the game.

Dig It by Biodegradable Inc
The first digging based game in The Hatch, Dig It makes it super obvious that the game has bad wood grain with the starting wooden shovel having bad wood grain. As a nice bonus this wooden shop also has bad wood grain so I don’t have to go back and get a better screenshot of the shovel.
Verdict: Fail
Emergency Emden by Emergency Emden
The end grain of the wooden planks is bad here. Yes, I could explain it more but this blog post is not the time for that. Just trust me it is wrong, and if anyone object I will go and find more wrong in Emden.
Verdict: Fail
The Survival Game by Simple Games Incorporated
Simple Games should know better that their wood grain is bad. Yet it is still bad. The vertical boards on this wall is bad. It is bad.

Morph World by Crazy Craft Creations
This Tiki Torch is an ancient free model. I went an looked and it was featured in my review of Treasure Hunt Simulator from 2018, so it is at least that old. Not only were some of the vertical sections on top being smooth plastic not fixed but the bad wood grain on the rest of them also hasn’t been fixed.
Verdict: Fail
Those Who Remain by Peak Development Studios
For a game made by a studio that is called “Peak” you would think the wood grain would be peak, but much like the wood grain in the Elite Builders of Robloxia isn’t elite I guess names mean nothing. In this case the front face of this gun rack was wrong, among other issues elsewhere in the game.

Mount RNG by TaleSun Studios
So full disclosure, this isn’t in the main lobby because I didn’t realize it would teleport me to a new world when I was trying to cross a bridge to get a closer look at some windmills that had bad wood grain, but hey, not my problem. Plus the fact there are more crates with bad wood grain is even funnier.

Vesteria by The Vesteria Team
The first game to have proper wood grain after a long streak of fails, Vesteria manages it by taking advantage of smooth plastic. So that is good I guess.

Yes it is another game with the new “retro” stud style that makes the entire game smooth plastic. It is all smooth plastic, there is no wood.

Sprunki RP 3D by Pranki Studios
Do I still know what a Sprunki is? No. Do I know why these two games are two different studios? No. Am I prepared to go down a rabbit hole to find out if these games are one of Jandel’s 300 different game studios he owns? No. Am I certain I’ve seen this picnic table in other places because it is from free models? Yes. Remember kids, you need to fix the wood grain in models from free models.

SharkBite 2 by Abracadabra
Another issue with the end grain on wooden planks that I don’t want to go into on this blog post, just know that this is wrong. Plus some of the wood grain on the broken up pirate ship in the background is also wrong, but that is for a full review.

The wood crates are bad again. There is more wrong here, but again just bashing the wooden crates is funny.

When I initial saw that mPhase had another game in another event I was happy since he has a good track record with event games. However not even mPhase can overcome the developer desire to use bad wood grain on crates.

Usually the best way to avoid having bad wood grain in your game is to make it entirely smooth plastic. The rarer method of making all wooden parts out of slate is valid I guess. I mean, it isn’t wrong.

Skateboard of Hell Obby by Limitless Obbies
I have no clue if this is a new group/game to me or not but the game is entirely smooth plastic or blocky textures so it doesn’t have any bad wood grain.
Infinite Tower Tycoon by azertytrezazerti
I hope I spelled that name right. However because of the fact the dev neglected to use proper wood grain on crates I also don’t care. Seriously, why does no one know how crates work.

Criminality by Crimcorp
One game that was really close to passing, Criminality failed due to this single wooden board on the edge of this scaffolding. Why do only these boards have bad wood grain while the entire rest of the grain is correct? No clue, but it fails my test.

War Machines by REDD’s Wastelands
A game I specifically remember from The Hunt, I specifically remembered the bad wood grain on these posts right near spawn. And guess what? They are still there. It’s a simple fix so I’m not sure why it hasn’t been fixed.

Roblox Rally Racing b y Roblox Rallying Group
A game that I reviewed a few years ago, Roblox Rally Racing was at an unfair advantage because I remembered where the bad wood grain was from all those years ago. Anyway, the top face of the rails on these wooden fences is incorrect.

Gun Armory Tycoon by Raven Network
Gun Armory Tycoon was had one advantage in that I did not have to complete any part of the tycoon to get the egg in-game, so that means it is easier to avoid having stuff for me to find. However, it does have trees with bad bark orientation so that knocks it down a peg. Yes, I have a blog post on this, no I will not elaborate in this blog post.

Dogs of War: WWII by LesPeperonis
When I first saw Dogs of War I was really impressed by the cell shaded graphics, and when I saw everything was all custom meshes I textures I wasn’t sure if I would find anything bad. However, this sign seemed to have a messed up texture on the top/bottom faces. Is this bad wood grain or a texture issue? I’m not sure, but I’m claiming it in the name of bad wood grain.

Monstrous Battlegrounds by LKC Games
A game that entirely takes place in the wilderness, there is no wood grain here. Also the trees all appear to be correct at a quick glance, so that is better than most games.

This game was entirely smooth plastic. Not sure how many ways I can say that games that are all smooth plastic can’t have bad wood grain.

Farmstead by Kanga Games
Farmstead is almost entirely smooth plastic, which normally means it should be fine. However, the UI is questionable because it is made out of wood, and the ends appear to show some possibly bad wood grain. Out of the kindness of my hear I will assume this is two wooden planks stacked on top of each other and give it a pass, but just know that it could go the other way on other GUIs.

Build to Survive MONSTERS! by Banana Studios Something
Build to Survive Monsters is a building game, therefore anything you can build in-game can technically be considered user error while building. However if you can insert say a pre-made chair that has bad wood grain that doesn’t count. Unfortunately for the game you can insert a pre-made chair.
Verdict: Fail
Super League Soccer by Play! Football
My nice streak continues with Super League Soccer. If you look at the top left corner of the screen you will see some odd designs above the lockers made out of wood. If you treat each stripe as different pieces of wood it is a fail, but if you treat them as different colors of stain it is fine. As it appears to be a single union I will treat it as the latter for a passing grade.

Flag Wars by Scriptly Studios
One of my favorite classic Roblox games is Underground Wars by StickMasterLuke, so I am so glad to see that a modern recreation of it exists. One thing that I am less happy about is all the bad wood grain that exists in the game, like on all parts of this windmill.
Dragon Ball Rage by iDracius
Personally if I was making a game with questionably IP usage I would not create a massive user spike that the IP holder may use to come back at my super hard, but that’s just me. On the plus side the wood grain in the parts of the game I saw seemed decent, so it will be a shame when this game does get DMCA’ed.

This is a game where someone named Teddy chases around a bunch of little kids. I will not make any connections between the game and OfficialTeddy. Anyway, the wood grain here is bad.

I honestly cannot tell anymore if this is a real game or just a joke I wasn’t invited to be part of. Oh well, the game doesn’t have any wood grain so that is all I care about.

Speaking of IPs that I’m not sure are allowed anymore, Troll Obby makes plenty of use of the Troll face and smooth plastic. Again, all smooth plastic is an easy way to get a pass from me.

I literally just has to spawn in here and I found bad wood grain on the lockers behind me. I’m not sure why sports games are so obsessed with adding wood to lockers, but please at least make it correct if you do.

Do I still hold a grudge for Funky Friday after how hard it was to finish for The Games event last year? Maybe. Did I go out of my way to try and find bad wood grain? Yes. Did I find some with the tree bark on this tree being incorrect? Also yes.

I genuinely have no clue what is going on with the name for this game or if it is an official Among us game or not. But what I do have a clue on is that these wooden cutting boards are incorrect, with the wood grain not going along the long face of the cutting board.

A game that I really should do a proper review of one day, Barry’s Prison Run has been in several events without any major updates, so my issues from previous events hold true once again. This ladder with bad wood grain on the rails is a prime example of a previous issue I saw that is still unaddressed.

I AM NOT SURE WHY THIS GAME IS YELLING AT ME BUT THE GAME HAS BAD WOOD GRAIN ON THIS LITTLE TV STANDS WHEN I JOINED A ROUND BY MISTAKE BEFORE REALIZING THE EGG WAS IN THE LOBBY.

Ragdoll Engine by Byteonix
Another game that is entirely undone by some wooden fences, unlike Roblox Rallying Ragdoll Engine has bad wood grain on fence posts, not on fence rails. If you combine those two fences you with have one really bad fence or one really good fence.

I wasted almost 45 minutes trying to complete the quests in this game because they launched broken during a time when I really don’t have much time to waste. The wood grain on the top face of this boat is absolute garbage and is an offense to my eyeballs. Whoever made it should feel shame and should worry about the dishonor they bought upon their family name.

Demon Soul Simulator by Diligent Farmer
It has been a while since I’ve had a visit from a crate or chest in this review, so seeing this chest with bad wood grain was a nice reminder that all devs really don’t know how to make wooden boxes.

Yeah I have no idea what is going on with that name either. Anyway, this shelf in the spawn area has bad wood grain so let’s just stop thinking about that name and focus on that bad wood grain here.

The final game in the connection biome, this one is a bit hard to see but trust me, the horizontal wooden beam has bad wood grain. You can barely see the vertical line close to me on the small piece of wood that sticks out, but it is much more noticeable with the camera moving.

Tokyo Claw Machine by Omochi_Studio’s Game Center
Hello there, WoodReviewer from like a week later after the above part of this blog was written. After I finished up the Connection biome Roblox decided to add two more games to it. Anyway, this first piece of bad wood grain is some fairly basic bad wood grain on the side of the poster along with the chair legs.

Squid Game Infinity Roleplay by Ryanblaze
Another Squid Game game, this game has some unique wood grain on this horse cart. As someone who has never watched Squid Game I have no idea what it is for, but the horizontal supports should have horizontal wood grain, not vertical.

Well that is all of the Connection Biome done, and it ended with 30 of the 45 games having bad wood grain, or 2/3rds. Is it a good number? No, but it is better than some previous events have managed. However, this event isn’t over yet.
