Hello excited gift openers of Roblox, WoodReviewer here, and today is day 18 of my 2017 Advent Calendar. Today is a very special day as it marks a very personal gift. So, what is today’s gift?
…Its another stick.
But this isn’t just any ordinary stick, it is based on my personal hiking stick that I made about 6 years ago and have been using ever since every time I go hiking or camping. It is made from a branch from a white ash tree, and is fairly distinctive due to the large arch that it has in the center of the stick, despite the top hand hold and bottom being lined up relatively straight.
To be completely honest, the curved shape, and relatively large kink near the bottom, to make the hiking stick a bit weaker and a little bendy compared to if it were straighter, but for the most part I don’t put any serious wear and tear on it so after 6 years, hundreds of miles of hikes, and about 8 different pairs of hiking shoes the stick still holds strong.
Plus it looks cool, so that counts for something.
The main thing with this model is that, despite being curved, the wood grain follows the curve of the wood. This is true from many branches, when they are cut open, and for many pieces of curved furniture, which are bent in many ways, including pure force, being manipulated with water, or heated over a fire.
